Football stat puzzle

How NFL Trivvy works

Every board is a new random puzzle, drawn from seasons in this game from 1983 to 2024. Play is free, and you can start as many boards as you want.

  1. 1

    Read the row

Each row is one rule. The years and the chips all have to be true for the player you add.

  2. 2

    Search, then pick a season

Type a name and choose it from the list. A one-year row locks that season. A span starts on the latest season that fits, and you can change it.

  3. 3

    The percentage is the score

The percentage under a pick is how it ranks against every answer that fits that row. 100% is the best number in this game’s data. The total at the top adds the stat from each season you keep.

  4. 4

Give up, or take Easy mode

Give up asks first. The row then scores 0 and shows one top answer. Easy mode asks only for the player, and the game picks the best season that fits.

How to play

  1. The stat in the top left is the only number that scores. Passing yards, sacks, interceptions thrown, and the rest all work the same way: bigger is better.
  2. Each of the five rows has a span of seasons and one or more rules. A rule can be a position, a team, a birthplace, a first-round draft card, or an award.
  3. Rules marked “same season” have to be true in the year you pick. Awards, birthplace, and draft round stick with the player for their whole career.
  4. Search for a player, then add the pick. A row that names one season locks that year. A span starts on the latest season that fits, and you can change it. A miss stays on the row and counts as a guess.
  5. The percentage under a pick is its place among every answer in this game’s data that fits the row. 100% means you matched the best number in the data. Tap a filled row to see the top answers.
  6. Easy mode asks only for the player. The game then uses that player’s best season that fits the row.
  7. Give up asks first, then leaves the row at zero and peeks at a top answer. When the board is finished, copy the recap. New puzzle builds a brand-new board, as many times as you want.

Running back includes fullbacks. Defensive line includes ends and tackles. Defensive back includes corners and safeties. A player who changed clubs during a season can count for each club listed in the data.
